First Post & Intro. to Puppy

So here goes…my very first blog entry! How exciting! How terrifying!

Ok, that’s it for the exclamation points for a while – promise.

So I’m Laura, and I’m starting this blog to have a place to organize, showcase, and in some cases tutorialize (made up word) the many projects that keep me busy. I’m a stay-at-home mom of two young boys, with a flair for the creative. I always have at least 2 or 3 projects going at any time, from large-scale room makeovers to costume design, to party favors and on and on. I hope that my readers will find this blog informative and entertaining. We will just have to see.

Now, since I’m totally new to the blogging world, this blog is, in itself, my latest project. In as such, I’m learning as I go, so bear with me while I learn all the workings of the blogosphere (surprisingly, not a made up word).

My husband Pete and I, along with our two boys Michael (he’s 10) and Trevor (he’s 8), own a 10 pound miniature schnauzer named Hazel. She’s 3 years old and she is awesome. There’s nothing like having a little dog crawl up on your chest, lick your nose, then fall asleep on your shoulder. It’s like a slice of heaven on earth.

So recently, when I started yearning for the pitter patter of little feet around the house again, I begged my husband to let me get another puppy. When he finally caved to my wishes, my son Michael and I went out to the breeder we had used to get Hazel. She had 4 litters of pups there, about 25 dogs total, mostly all claimed. There was one little runt left, a little girl, who was literally a half to a third the size of her siblings. It was love at first sight.

We put down our deposit on her and are now awaiting her arrival like anxious parents. We can get her on August 18th.

The above photo is from July 15th, two weeks ago. Today, the breeder wrote to us to say that she’s gaining weight and now tips the scales at a pound and a half. Also, she sent us these updated photos…

I pointed her out in the group photo, like you wouldn’t have been able to find the runt in the bunch.

Her name is Violet.

  1. Have her parents been screened for health problems? 4 litters at one time…sounds a bit like a high-class puppy mill.

    • Great question. The kennel is AKC compliant, and the pups all come with a healthy dog guarantee. The dog’s lineage is provided to insure that there was no inbreeding. The place is clean, and the dogs and puppies are all extremely well cared for.

      • I am extremely wary of breeders that have more than one or two litters a year, it’s generally a big red flag. I hope she at least has screened the parents for genetic health problems.
Just to clarify…I hope I didn’t come across as rude, just a curious/concerned individual!
